Family Fall Festival  
9am-3pm. (All ages) Join us at Green Spring Gardens for the annual Family Fall Festival! The festival will have activities for the entire family, including classes for children and adults, a silent auction, a book sale, and a bake sale. Vendors will be selling a large variety of plants and other items. Grab a meal at the food truck and enjoy some musical entertainment at the White Gazebo. Saving Garden Treasures: Taking Plant Cuttings 
1:30-3pm. (16-Adult) Learn how to propagate plants from cuttings following simple techniques demonstrated by Green Spring staff. Gain strategies to overwinter your favorite tender perennials so you can add them to your garden next year and save money. Plants & Design: Perk Up Your Fall Garden 
10:30am-12pm. (Adult) September is a great time to inject some autumn beauty into your home garden. Green Spring horticulturist Brenda Skarphol discusses dividing perennials, planting cool season plants, and beautifying your garden with fall season show-stoppers so it looks its autumn best. Golden Garden 
10:30-11:30am. (Adults) In honor of Green Spring's golden anniversary, we look at the color gold in the garden. Learn how to use this "neutral" color to balance your garden color palette. Garden Tour: Green Spring Up and Down 
10-11:30am. (Adults) Extension Master Gardener docents lead a special “Grand Tour” of Green Spring! View some upper demonstration gardens, then take the garden path less travelled to explore the naturalistic lower garden areas: the Virginia Native Plant Garden, woodland stream valley, and ponds. 10:30-11:30am. (Adults) Rock gardens add a special look and feel to any landscape. Extension Master Gardeners show you how to design and plant a beautiful display resembling an alpine meadow or a mountain garden with fabulous small and dwarf perennials and evergreens. Floral Design Workshop: European Hand-Tied Bouquet 
10:30am-12pm. (16-Adult) Hand-tied bouquets are the European standard for flower gift-giving and bridal bouquets. Certified designer Betty Ann Galway shows you the techniques for constructing and balancing this lovely arrangement, which you can use to make floral gifts and bouquets for any occasion. Watercolor Workshop: Still Life 
9:30am-3:30pm. (Adults) Whether you are a beginner or experienced painter, learn to paint still life in watercolor with the help of artist Dawn Flores. 9am-3pm. (16-Adult) Some subjects just scream to be painted in watercolors, and orchids are one of those subjects. Taught by botanical artist Dawn Flores, plan and execute an orchid-inspired painting. Information on orchid anatomy, lessons on color, and a variety of watercolor techniques and transfer practices are presented. Orchid owners may bring in their own specimen or work from photographs provided by the instructor. This class is appropriate for any skill level. 1-3pm. (Adult) Often dismissed as dangerous and outspoken attention-seekers, eccentric women have been powerful forces for social change. Are We Haunted? 
1-3pm(Adult) Hear hair-raising stories of hauntings and ghost hunters that pose dilemmas for caretakers of the past. Learn why historic sites with supernatural reputations can become haunted by ghost stories that misrepresent historical fact and reduce historical figures to mere spooks and specters. $38 (program & tea); $15 (program only).

Family History 
1-3pm(Adult) At Thanksgiving, thoughts turn to family. Celebrate familial bonds throughout history as we explore influential families that have shaped the world and famous siblings who have left their mark. Christmas Candlelight Teas 
4-5:30pm. (Adult) Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” is the quintessential tale of the yuletide spirit. Discover the story’s origins, how it reflects life in Early Victorian England, and how it influenced our Christmas traditions in its depiction of the ultimate grinch, Ebenezer Scrooge. Bah! 4-6pm. (21 yrs.+) Pairing scotch whisky with food is a growing trend. Each tour will include a hands-on element and can be customized to address the science topics your students are learning in school. Lewis Ginter Gardenfest of Lights, Richmond, VA 
3-10pm. (Adults) Get into the holiday spirit at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond. The Gardenfest of Lights features beautiful botanic displays and more than a half million lights arranged in botanical themes throughout the gardens. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. Summer Safari 
11am-12pm. (5-Adult) Salamanders, snakes, toads, turtles… summer is their favorite season and all are out and about. Come on a safari to explore the habitats and activities of these creatures and more! Binoculars and magnifying glasses will be provided to aid you in your summer safari. Private Garden Tours for Groups and Individuals 
Arrange a private tour of the demonstration gardens. Green Spring Extension Master Gardener docents lead garden tours year-round. These knowledgeable, highly trained guides interpret the gardens, the plant collections, the site’s mission, and its historic legacy. Home gardeners can learn about top landscape plant choices and plant combinations. General and themed garden tours are available. $10 per person for groups of 20 or more; $12 per person for 19 or fewer (minimum of 2) Groups of more than 10 people will be divided into smaller groups to allow for social distancing. Visit with the Historian 
Step into the 1784 Historic House with Green Spring’s historian, who shares the fascinating origins of the site, the intriguing people who lived here, and how Green Spring Gardens evolved into the community treasure it is today. Your 45-minute private visit will include time to view informational videos and a historic photo exhibit. $20 for 1-2 adults, $10 for each additional person, up to 7. For information or to schedule a visit call Historic Green Spring at (703) 941-7987.
