MEET THE ARTISAN:  Gini Moore

Wall Art by Gini MooreGini Moore is a photo artist who loves playing with apps. She grew up in Hawaii, but currently lives in Falls Church.  For years Gini was an elementary classroom teacher and School Based Technology Specialist for Fairfax County Public Schools. She served as president of the Virginia Macintosh Users Group and Vice President, photographer, and ‘ukulele performer for the Hawaii State Society of Washington, D.C.

Moore bought her first SLR camera prior to going to Liberia, Ghana, Kenya, and Egypt in 1975, with radio personalities Harden and Weaver. That trip presented the opportunity to photograph animals and she has never stopped.

Flowers are a particularly favorite subject for Moore.  Her early life in Hawaii is filled with the memories of breathtaking tropical flowers and the fragrance of the best.

Digital photography has made it so easy to play, and has relieved the financial burden of film photography. With the development of photography apps, it is possible to play ever more with captured images.

Many of her photos are unedited. However, the photos of animals are and there is a reason for that.   Most of the African animals started as screenshots from live safari broadcasts on YouTube — SafariLive.  Moore has been “going on safari” with them since 2010 taking screenshots of the action, then with the use of editing apps imbue them with great artistic flair.
After sharing her pictures with SafariLive, they did a piece on Gini on a2016 blog which was a thrill you can share.  https://wildearth.tv/2016/02/safarilive-viewer-profile-art-in-the-animals/   Moore’s enthusiasm is evident in her vivid work so filled with movement and personality.  “I love photography and playing with iPhone apps. It is amazing what the Dreamscope app filters can do to the already awesome scenes from a live drive. They make them look like bold paintings, explains Moore.

After writing for permission to sell edited versions of screenshots which was granted  since the image is so much changed  in the editing.  Moore has established a multi-product line which includes stunning wall art in many mediums, Home Décor with throw pillows, duvet covers, bath towels and totes.  She also produces a wide range of stationary, iPhone and Galaxy Cases, and both men and women’s apparel.

Moore sells her work here in Annandale at the Artisans United Gallery and online at gini-moore.pixels.com
