On Saturday, May 5, 2012, The 8th Annual Bed Race, a fundraiser for Special Olympics Virginia, and organized by the Annandale Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Fairfax County Police Department will be held.
Pediatric hospital beds are provided, and teams of five decorate and “race” their bed on a relay course in a timed competition. Prizes are awarded in several categories including best decorated and most entertaining team – with the overall bed race winner receiving a trophy. Last year, a new evolution in bed design was evident with three teams building themed shells around their beds which gave the appearance of large Soap Box Derby contestants. This is a race of ridiculousness, silliness, and warm-hearted fun in support of Special Olympics Virginia.

The race runs from 10:00-Noon with breaks for local entertainment and introductions. Beds are available that morning at 8:00 am for decorating or the day before with prior arrangements. The race will take place on John Marr Drive near Juke Box Diner. Applications will be available on this website by March 25, 2012.
