The Garden and Nature Gift Shop caters to nature lovers of all ages. If you are a Birder, look for ceramic, resin, and glazed terra cotta birdhouse in shapes as diverse as ladybugs and bumblebees to tall cylindrical homes. Books abound for the toddler with touch and feel and pop-ups as well as for the very experienced Birder, gardener, and wildlife enthusiast.

A sure favorite for budding gardener-chefs is published by DK and called, “Grow It, Cook It.”  It provides easy grow instructions for elementary school children along with recipes to incorporate all you have grown and some garden craft projects. The Nature Shop also displays an impressive array of used books and Field Guides. More than a dozen gorgeous Hummingbird feeders made in the USA from recycled glass hang in abundance from a wrought iron fixture. A basket of adorable wild life finger puppets and equally appealing Folkmanis hand puppets (look for the flying squirrel and the otter) are displayed by a large selection of nature puzzles, yard ornaments, trugs, tarps, and Foxgloves for gardening.

Hand lotion as diverse as White Sage to Blue Ridge Wildflowers is stocked to help the weary hands of true gardeners. There is also a large flock of stuffed bird toys by Audubon; each will sound its trademark chirp. A favorite besides the truly beautiful enamel and silver wildlife pins and earrings are the Weeding Glasses. These are reading size sun glasses, UVA rated, available in all strengths, and a must for weeding in the bright sun. Each comes in a case and is adorned with floral accents painted on the frames. It is fair to say that if you have children on your gift list, someone who gardens, or someone fascinated by birds or wildlife in general, this gift shop is an essential stop.
